20 Dividend Champions With The Highest Return On Assets Ratio

Return on assets (ROA) is a financial ratio that shows the percentage of profit a company earns in relation to its overall resources. It is commonly defined as net income divided by total assets. Net income is derived from the income statement of the company and is the profit after taxes.

A company's return on assets (ROA) is calculated as the ratio of its net income in a given period to the total value of its assets. For instance, if a company has $10,000 in total assets and generates $2,000 in net income, its ROA would be $2,000 / $10,000 = 0.2 or 20%.

If return on assets is increasing, then either net income is increasing or average total assets are decreasing. A company can arrive at a high ROA either by boosting its profit margin or, more efficiently, by using its assets to increase sales. Say a company has an ROA of 24%.

A company's return on assets (ROA) is a key indicator of the overall productivity of the company, and shows the percentage of profit a company earns relative to its total resources. A negative ROA suggests that a company is not properly utilizing its capital, and may have questionable management.
